The Hemmel sitting in its own little plot is the perfect base to explore beautiful Northumberland, the Norths biggest secret. Shhh!

Return home and relax in front of the log burner fuelled by wind felled logs from the land. Sustainable solar and wind power, the freshest water from our bore hole adds to an off-grid experience, a return to nature and time to just be together.

The master bedroom houses a four poster Super King bed and a picture window allowing the sunrise or stary night skies to sleepily sooth your worries away.

The family bathroom is filled with luxury products from Penhaligon’s of London and soft Egyptian cotton towels can be found on the warm towel rail.

The open plan living space is stylishly furnished in warm creams and rustic wood furnishings and a second picture window frames those amazing views.

Step out onto your own private decking area and enjoy the rolling landscape of the Cheviot Hills over a romantic meal or just sit quietly with a good book and a glass of that lovely Berry Bros sparkling wine.

Wi-fi and mobile coverage

Please note that due to the remote location of Kidlandlee wi-fi can be quite slow. We have installed an unlimited 4G router which is great for Wi-Fi calling, emails, surfing the internet. Streaming can buffer.

Parking-Electric Charger

There is private parking to the side of The Hemmel.

The electric charger is powered by solar panels on the roof of The Hemmel. It will charge no more than approx 3kwh per hour on a sunny day. Alwinton village at the bottom of the valley does have an additional charger if required.

Gardens and Grounds

There is a private enclosed garden to the rear of the property with outside furniture. An Outback barbecue will be available in the spring and summer months.

Please note that Kidlandlee is not on the national grid and is dependent on wind and solar power, with a generator for back-up. This means that the number of electrical appliances in the property is limited to the key essentials and a dishwasher cannot be supported.

No Smoking

The property is strictly no smoking.

Access – Important

While the cottage is situated in a fabulous, secluded position, it is important to note that this is accessed by a three-mile-long Forestry Commission track which comprises loose gravel and cattle grids. This is steep in places and care should be taken, especially during the winter months, as any adverse weather can leave the track rutted. Please drive slowly paying particular attention to the road surface. Sports cars and low suspension vehicles should be avoided. Four-wheel drive vehicles may be required during winter conditions. Please contact us if you have any concerns.

Thropton (12 miles) has two pubs including the highly regarded Three Wheat Heads, a traditional 300-year-old coaching inn which has a cosy lounge bar and fine dining restaurant serving a varied and interesting menu using fine local produce from the Coquet Valley. A new shop is currently being built in the village.

The charming village of Rothbury (14 miles) has a super selection of independent shops, galleries, pubs and cafes as well as a deli, bakery and butcher’s shop. It is worth taking a stroll along the river bank too whilst you are there as it is quite picturesque.
